That's naive & simplistic beyond belief.
Tell you what.... Go get a job in the real world, skive off without contact for however long leaving a lot of work shit to be done and then see if you still have a job when you decide to turn up again, even with the best excuse in the world.
Yes, family are important, business is important as well.
I sometimes think that webmasters as a group must be the unluckiest bunch of people ever. The number of people who disappear for a while and then come back to tell us tales of mums suffering cancer, girlfriends being shot, freak storms knocking over data centers, dogs eating servers etc etc etc is just unbelievable.
Oddly, most of the people who do the disappearing seem to owe people something as well. I wonder if there's a correlation.
