You need incoming links, the way I get links when I start a new niche is I build my own, I make a couple of sites that will get listed on other sites, Dmoz and the likes and submit them, for every " nice " domain I have I will build 5-20 feeder domains. If your posting links on adult web boards, linkdumps and the likes watch out for death by association.
I look for easy domains to build, " pictures of " is a fav term of mine, as content is just a digital camera away.
