Well I think that I can only do this in stages. There is so much to say and I will start right at the beginning assuming that you know very little about ebooks.

First off. Ebooks are part of what mainstream calls "information products". An ebook is a delivery method. You do not have to limit your thinking in product production or promotion to just text. Audio and videos are becoming very popular.

All of the marketing really focuses around building an email list, building a community, building connections with like minded people. The start of this is really research. You need to choose a niche that is both profitable (people who have money and are willing to part with it) and a niche you can find a need in.

I will quickly run past each section/step but then provide more detail in another post:

1. research your niche which will become your topic for an ebook and various other forms of text (like articles, newsletters, sites, blogs etc)that drive traffic

2. its good to think about the bigger picture and start with the ebook as the bottom of a funnel with many mini/free/cheaper products at the top that feed lists that you will market your ebook too or feed traffic direct to the ebook. An article can feed traffic to a page that "squeezes an email" out of someone (squeeze page with a purpose of getting someone on a niche specific list) or it can feed direct to the sales page.

You can spend some time thinking of an even bigger picture but I suggest you start at the ebook and work up then when that is working well think about that bigger picture. It can include a monthly membership product or home study product or more expensive ebook.

3. Your ebook should be researched and outlined and every part of it used to build your marketing tools. Examples, an ebook has sections, each of these can become a number of articles or you can give away free a much more scaled down version of the ebook to build your list or to drive traffic direct to the larger/paid version (or both). Many more ideas I will expand on.

4. You write or have someone write your ebook(s) and articles and even newsletters. You plan it all out. A great automated strategy is to use autoresponder series as if they are newsletters or as if they are promised reports or tutorials. Each message will upsell the ebook.

5. Find other existing products (look thru click bank for example) that are similar enough to yours to market to your list or on your blogs and free sites.

6. Set up an affiliate program for your larger ticket ebooks. Use clickbank or paydotcom.com for payment and you can use a very simply affiliate program and gain exposure at the same time as people often search there for products to sell to their list. You can also recruit for the affiliate program in many of the the same ways that we do in adult.

7. Watch for ways to automate or hire out the entire process. In adult we talk about a matrix of sites, in mainstream they refer to the funnel and the list and repeating the same thing over again.

You can write an ebook all you want but you have to consider how you will get traffic to it to make money from it. Its no different then building an avs or tgp, you need to know how people are going to find your site, where is the traffic coming from.

I will add posts to this as time permits to expand on the points. Even then it will not be extensive. There are so many ideas and things you can do to get traffic or set up your products to upsell each other or other peoples products. A great strategy is to make your ebook based upon an upsell of a large product out there. There are some affiliate programs that have monthly membership products. You can make your ebook all about getting traffic to the monthly membership product of some affiliate program out there.

More soon....
