His keyword density is 11% for that 2 word phrase and he is ranked pretty solidly #1 for it on Google. Would that mean I should be able to overtake him on the ranking for that term with time? There is not a site on that front page for basicly any key word or key word phrase that is safe in their position. I can get on that front page for basicly any key word or key word phrase with in 7 days to a month. Now staying there is another thing entirely.
Google right now looks at ( I think )
1. Key Word Density
2. Back Links
3. Back Links From Long Established Sites In The Same Niche or area
Its hard to do but you should beg , plead and yes even pay for links with long established ( 2 yrs or older sites ). But they must be hard links. Nothing in a script of any kind. And you want them as near to the top of that other site as possible.
CAUTION If Joe Blow has a Pr 5-7 site and he is selling every Tom , Dick and Harry a link you do not want your link on that page. Repeat don't do it. Leave it alone. Google is not stupid. They know this goes on and believe me they are on to it.
4. On topic text. And they like lots of it. No you can't just add a bunch of key words at the bottom of the page. You could in 97 but those days are long over.
5. Sites that load well with out a delay. If your host has over a 1 second delay when you try to load the page on DSL or Cable move today. This will in the long run kill you both with Google and with Joe Porn Surfer.
And I am sure there are a lot more things also that I don't know about.
