One main big reason to put the feeder blogs on thumblogger or your own hosting on a differnt ip would be the fact that you would have them on differnt ips and this would work to your advantage with the search engines. If you had the feeder blogs on host B and your main blog on host A it would be to your advantage to link from the feeder blogs to your main blog. And while it may not work real well for you at first eventually it will if you keep building and adding posts to all the blogs. Eventually 3-6 months in the feeder blogs will help to build the search engine ranking for the main blog especially if you keep the links one way.
