Depends on the site. I had one in google's index to begin with, and it went nuts after the second crawl of the site. I've been averaging a 30% increase of traffic per day from google. Yahoo and MSN have just caught the site, so their traffic is rising slowly.
Your SEO should be pretty much the same, making the CMS your using a non-issue. Back links is the biggest thing. That same site has links to some of the biggest sites in its category and a PR4 (probably taking a jump to 5 next update).
You should randomly scan your pages and see what keywords and descriptions are being generated for pages to ensure the system is working for your content.
And deffinatley make sure your stats package has ways to track your keyword hits. I regularly go back through my keywords for the last few months and check the top 5. I search the content and move articles related to that keyword to its own new category. Google love's it.

Honestly? I've found nothing but crap out there for templates. Even alot of the ones you can buy are crap for SEO (though most WM's get sucked in cause they "look good").
Their are a lot of tutorials out there for how to build your own template, but unless you know PHP, XML, Dreamweaver and have a good solid development background, its a pain in the ass. I spent 6 months learning how to build them to work well with SEO.
If you don't want to take the time, I'll give a NP special of a basic one column template for $50 US (Epass or points). Just PM me. You can also checkout a bunch of my templates on my site (see sig). If you need something more advanced I can do some pretty wild stuff with Joomla templating and CSS
Enough of a shameless plug.

It depends on the amount of feeds I can get for that "niche". If I can only get a few, I don't publish them, just search through and publish a few per day.
I have some sites with over 40 RSS feeds coming in so I publish them automatically but only set them to be published for 30-40 days and then I have an auto-archive bot archive them to the archived section. I'll explain more in my next tutorial.

Hmmm... in a week or so I think... I'm doing this in my spare time, and I don't have a lot these days so it may be a few weeks between posts, but I plan on running this tutorial for a few months.
