I'd like sponsors to answer this as well as affiliates.

I keep reading here (and not many other places) that all these sales are being lost, but I don't see sponsors stating this, and don't see many affiliates saying it either.

From my own stats, I don't find I'm losing sales. Each month my sales numbers and dollars amounts goes up. I don't always send the same traffic to the same sites, so I don't expect the same sales each day. With some sites, I know I'l do X number of sales a day but that's just a handful.

For my regular niche, if I notice my sales lagging with a certain sponsor, there almost certainly is a reason for it, and generally it's that I moved that sponsor around a bit so am pushing another.

For my review sites, newest reviews always do a burst of sales and traffic, and then it levels off. Some sites will continue to do well, but others will get a sale here or there, depending on the site, the niche, the review, etc.

Yes, I see what is happening with Zango, but it "appears" to be mostly happening to dating and cam sites, something I don't push much, so maybe that's why I don't see it.
