I am still working with poser 5. I see no reason to upgrade to newer
versions of programms if there is no real advantage and for strange
reasons a lot of established workflows won't work with newer versions.
But since i heard that there are some usefull improvments with 7 (like lights)
and it seems like most bugs are weed out i will give it a try this summer.
Of course what prog is the right for you depends on what you want to
use if for. Since i guess your interest targets human figures / porn
would say try poser.
Maybe you want to try daz studio first. It's a poser clone and it's for free:

I know some ppl who prefer to render in daz studio over poser.
