May I please point out here.
We don't know the circumstances of the family for sure however, during war time women who were pregnant in world war 2 and lived through the bombings had a higher incidence MUCH higher of children born who exhibited those same transgender characteristics at a very early age and had decided they were little girls.
There is more to being a girl than outward physiology we use a different side of our brain and the boy children born under stress where there is a lot of adrenaline in the mother for long periods as was experienced during the bombings in world war 2 have a higher incidence of using the female side of the brain.
This can result in males who think feel and want to be women at an extremely early age. There are other factors that can influence this as well not only adrenaline. However rest assured the case put forth is possible and children that young can have an almost pathological fixation on their being the wrong sex.
These studies were conducted 20 years after the war and were verified using MRIs and Cat Scans to display the difference between a male exhibiting transgender characteristics and that of a healthy so called normal male. As with all case studies they sampled a large section of the population and these are only trends not pointing to any individual.
Now, after putting out these facts I am sure to hear from people who say "My Mother... fill in the blank".
What I stated was only statistical tendencies not individual cases.
The fact that he was fixated on colors and frills is only a cultural issue and might indeed be due to family pressure.
In other words unless you could see into the private lives of that family there is no way you can know if it is an accident of birth he is determined to correct, or due to environmental issues and pressure from the mother.
