I just read the thread and i think:
paul is trying to say that the 40+ surfer knows exactly what he wants, thus he is already targeted and he is in the age bracket to actually whip out a credit card. These 40+ surfers just need a little help trying to find exactly what it is they are looking for, and if a webmaster directs this surfer to the right destination, he'll buy.
