The funny thing about modern Karate is that it's mostly based on Funakoshis
style. After reading his bio i think he saw it as a philosophic teaching system
and maybe he set up the basic technics and style unsuitable for competition
and combat on purpose. Of course, as soon as he was dead the goals
changed, with sometimes bizarre results.
