I figure it's time to get this contest rolling. For those of you that have been following what I'm doing you can still make donations in this thread
http://www.netpond.com/adult-webmast...re-cancer.html I was hoping to get a few more dollars to round up the prize money to $80 but If I don't get it I will add it myself.
I hope I have given you guys enough information in this thread so that you understand what I'm doing here. I was pretty tired when I typed this up.
In this contest you will have the chance to win one of the following prizes.
1st place: $50 plus 6 months of free shared hosting (approx $100 value) from Varzi Network
2nd place: $10
3rd place: $10
4th place: $10
To win these prizes you must send the most points in the month of March. these points are calculated by a program that uses your computers processing power to crunch numbers that are used in cancer research and to find cures for various diseases. It's also used to make out humane gene structure to help scientists understand how genetic disorders happen. It's hard for me to explain exactly how this program works but I will try to explain it with some screenshots.
First off in order to participate in this contest you will have to download this program here
World Community Grid - Team
It should take less than 60 seconds to download and start running. It runs automatically in most windows OS systems but with vista you will have to activate it each time you reboot your computer.
After you download the program you must join the team called MAS_Community so that I can track your stats.
You may want to download the
Boinc client to make stats tracking easier.
This program will not pull a lot of resources since it's designed to run so that you can use your computer normally. I run a lot of programs and I have never noticed a lag in my computer even though I have reset the programs allowed resource levels twice as high as their preset stats.
After you join the team simply post your username in this thread saying you want to compete. I suggest that you compete even if you want to give your prize back as it will make others try harder to get more points and thus get more cancer research done with their computers. Those that don't accept their prize at the end of this contest will have it put towards another contest that will be launched in April.
You can become a part of this contest at any time but only points gathered in the month of March will be counted. The system updates its stats around 9pm here in Florida so the contest will actually start late on the 29th of this month. I will get an exact time for you and post it in this thread.
I will post a screenshot of all members points so that everyone can see where they start and everything will be legal.
The rest of this thread will give you tips on how to win the big 1st place prize.
some of the basic things you can do are leave your computer on at night so that it will keep running the program. You can also go into the BOIC stats by clicking on the icon on your bottom toolbar. Go to the advanced settings and click on preferences

You can then increase your CPU usage.
You can also tweak the disk usage
One of the most strategic things you can do to insure you will rack up the points is to install the program on multiple computers under the same username. The easiest way to do this is to go to a friends house or a relative and install the program from there or walk them through it over the phone. just use your username and password and the system will count both computers points as your own. When you log in with another computer you will need to create a new device profile.

It's pretty simple to do so I won't go into details here.
If you have a job where you have access to lots of computers ask your boss if you can put the program on them. Libraries and schools are also a good place. I hope that everyone gets involved with this because it is all a benefit to mankind. several diseases are studied with this program. If enough people help with this and compete for the prizes we can help eliminate things like cancer, A.I.D.S and MS as well as many other human ailments.
