You get your speedlite fixed? It looks from the photos that the drive slider came dislodged off the worm gear, but I cannot tell too much with the shots, as they seem slightly off focus.
If you didn't get it fixed, you could extend the lighting cables and use it as the flash for your ring light project, and use the body on the hotshoe...
