Domains are easier. You can register for 10 years! It's the hosting that's a bitch. Hosting companies rise and fall sometimes. Many that were king shit and riding high ten years ago are gone and forgotten today.
You can run automated updaters for content on blogs and such but there are software upgrades too.
So it's possible but you do need that occasional tweak.
You set up a couple of bank accounts for paying for services like hosting and you should be good to go. Combine it into your estate and an attorney should be able to get someone to do the tweaking for you.
