I got you worng.
The domaining is big business nowadays, maybe the bubble will burst (and I think so too) but not as the system itself, but solely in volume traded and prices paid. As long as prices are high, why not to surf the wave on the top?
Actually the domain squatting used to be quite big issue in the past, don't think it is nowadays when you got so many control and regulatory mechanisms you can use.
If you own a trademark, you got your domain very easily, esp. for example the .eu domains. I think those who actually have the rights for the name can easily claim it nowadays and those that just want the name because they want it, well they have to pay.
Imho ICANN has absolutely no interest in making any restrictions to domainers. Most of the names are never traded and ICANN cash in incredible amounts on fees plus massive majority of ICANN are registrars that cash in even more incredible amounts on fees
