Where I live the gun laws give some discretion to a private citizen to stop someone who has committed a felony in their presense... But I am still absolutely certain I'd be spending most of my life in a cage.
Of course, cops are Uber-people since they represent the Government, so they get away with almost anything.

Good point! When I grew up you could be shot for sassing back at your mother. It was that hardcore back then. If you rolled your eyes menacingly in someone's direction you could be shot. On the other hand we rarely had any burglaries and muggings were unheard of. If a guy committed a crime and made it to the police station he was lucky because if our neighborhood caught him he was finished.
Everyone who was able had a gun then and no one misused them.
In this case the cops acted out of fear and in my opinion racism. Yeah some of the cops were black but black on black crime is a staypin in our society. Had the guy been white the cops would have thought three times before shooting him because they would have been afraid of the consequences.
I know my territory. I grew up in NY, have had family on the police departments up and down that state since they were formed.
