Protect/Secure WP Tutorial

I keep reading here about problems with the security of WP and i think all of
us are worried about this. I guess it's not that much of a problem if they hack splogs or less important blogs, but what if they mess with our main blogs...

i am currently working a lot to build 3 main blogs, doing lots of research, etc... and i intend to make them big, what if they hack my admin password and change the links to the sponsors, (i work and they cash in the sales) or what if they change the content or who knows what other shit they can do...

What's the best strategy to protect our WP blogs?
Is it mandatory to protect the wp-admin folder? If so, how? Password protect the folder or use the plugin to secure the link when login to admin panel or how...?
Anyone willing to make a tutorial for how to protect/secure WP?
