That is a hard question.
When you don't update you risk that your blog will drop in the future, recovering from such a drop (caused by no updates on site) is more difficult compared to a drop because the content changed.
I think this one is a case of strategy, if your in it for the long run: update. If you in need of $ and don't really care about the next month: don't update
