There are other markets where the demographic is no t"average surfers" but is targeting certain people not usual to the markets you are used to thinking about - so it makes no odds to me if 10,000 people search for "hire the worlds best seo writer" as I if you think about it only want about 6 or 7 people to ever think of such a search term - surely that should make sense?

Not the same domographic at all.
targeted long-term traffic is fine, but i usually read this reasoning from people who don't manage to rank well for big terms...don't tell us you wouldn't like to be #1 for "SEO" or "SEO writing"
