get a hosting account with hostgator (or a similar oversold host) and host your big movies there - if they are slow, go down, etc. no big loss, as your site is still up.
This would require a second domain though, but at least you have complete control over your promo content.
BTW - Hot linking can be prevented using .htaccess files - google it.
