I give prizes on my mainstream forum, next comp will give away a digital camera, the comp after a dvd player etc.
Prizes don't have to be expensive but they definately get people posting. In the UK you can pick up DVD players for less than £15 ($30) One competition we gave away handmade chocolate from a specialist choc shop and that did really well.
