welcome to the pond from a newb as well, however, i may be new to this industry but i've been fixing and building pc's for 9 yrs,...If you did have a virus, chances are that if your running norton you still have it as many will disable nortons reporting, it looks like its running but it really isn't,..i would suggest turn off system restore, boot to safe mode with networking and use bit defender online free scanner and see what it shows,..if it finds some and can't remove, then i would use spybot s d in safe mode as well, reboot back to windows after and turn on system restore again,. many viruses will stay in the restore points, so after you turn it off its gone,..just my 2 cents,..
