Unless the electricity from these things is coming from a clean source (say you have your own solar generator, instead of chucking the plug on to the grid) you are still using hydrocarbon based fuels to produce the electricity, so what you
don't burn at point of use, is being burnt somewhere else to generate this
clean power.
Then you have the problem of the batteries as facialfreak mentioned, until the point comes where you can totally recycle the batteries, and power them from clean sources, you are doing nothing but own bragging rights.
At present these green initiatives are green on the surface, but scratch that surface and you find the same shit underneath.
