Okay, three hours more this morning and around twenty bucks invested in a bit of the local currency so I could buy a few things - and I think I'm pretty much fed up with it

.
The concept is definately interesting and even though I think it's a tad too aimless for me (not that you can't set your own goals, but I don't really see that happening for me in that virtual world), I imagine I could actually have some fun if I could live with the horribly outdated graphics (they get even worse as you go along and start seeing some of crowded areas) and the fact that despite the ancient graphics engine (but thanks of course to pretty much nothing but user created content) it's still an excersise in patience, waiting minutes for everything to load completely (images and textures start out blurry and then gradually become sharper) when you enter a new area.
And even when everything in the vicinity is loaded, I'm still regularly lagging during movement on my 2 Mbit connection - and it's using up every damn shread of memory I've got (2 GB RAM, 4 GB pagefile).
Looks like the kind of project that would be better suited for the hardware (well, it's not exactly like the ugly graphics ought to put stress on any modern CPU and graphics card) and particularly the broadband connections we'll have 5 or 10 years from now. I guess I'll take another look then
