how do you use javascrip t?

if you use it, what do you use it for? a simple bookmark script? or for more advanced techniques?

just some that come to mind:

yes the bookmark sometimes
but mostly for inserting banner rotation or ads (like adsense)
pop ups and unders
breaking out of frames (but more of that in the past)
navigation but try to avoid it there cause the SE's dont like it to much
sometimes but seldom special effects like text scrolers or other page effects

I use a bookmark script and a script that hides the status bar text with a customised message of my own.

Bookmark script and for ad rotation mainly. I've got "javascript for dummies" book and it still puzzles me so I don't use javascript much unless it's laid out for me to cut and paste

On most of my sites i stay away from js, but on some occasions

On a side note: One of the reasons for that site was to test
if SEs like (or even handle) a design with text on layers that
are switched visible / invisible by js. So far it looks like at least
google has no problem with it.

I use it where it's needed to achieve the end result. My first choice would always be PHP functions though. I do use JavaScript for bookmarking on nearly every page.

on my sites i try not to use java, the only thing i use it for is for a tiny cross browser bookmark script. Lots of java slows down page load, and nowadays with increasing the browser's security settings, lots of java scripts can popup a warning to the surfers, and thats bad, coz they will probably think its a virus and close down the site..so be aware of that when using java, always check it with couple of browsers for warnings..

more i am using it in my scripts i write, it works pretty good in conjuction with php, and started using it more often now for doing background queries and ajax..

I use it for image rollovers, pre-loading images, image swapping, drop down menus, and collecting client-side traffic tracking info. Useful language but please don't call it Java!

Mostly in image rollovers, and fixing IE's quirks (PNG ans psoedo css classes). Sometimes I use some AJAX. But I always make sure the site still works if JS is turned off.
