Why on earth shouldn't a seven year old be transgendered?

Imagine the life of that child should he (biological male) actually be a female trapped in a man's body. Suicide and or drugs are often the results of forcing gender conformity on a child unsuited to it.
Could you possibly be so heartless as to view your own child as disgusting because he or she was not born as they know they are? Would you be disgusting by accepting what they chose?

I'm very interested in gender issues & human sexuality. And anyway as I said, there's nothing particularly unique about this case. Transgender links are not difficult to find if you look.

Gender is wired pretty deeply into our systems, so it's highly unlikely that a mother would be able to convince her kid to be a girl just because she'd like to have one -- the same way it's nearly impossible to (permanently) convince a transgendered kid to be 'normal'.

Now, I don't know the specifics of the case (and the video doesn't seem to work for me), but in general it seems reasonable to me to play along and see what happens. I'd say any child of 7 will have a pretty good idea of what it means to be a boy or a girl. And someone so young shouldn't have much problems appearing as either sex without any form of surgery or permanent changes, so there isn't really all that much risk of permanent damage.

Regarding intersex children -- There's plenty of examples of intersexed people who've ended up with ruined lives because doctors though it's easiest to just "cut off the penis and make it a girl" (sometimes even without informing the parents).

Considering the number of people here promoting 'shemales' (even though there's supposedly no money in that... ), I'm kind of surprised at the reaction here... I mean -- where to you think they come from? Taking expensive hormones and cosmetic surgery just to do porn?

Gender on the other hand, is kind of different, as you can easily determine by talking to a two year old going "mommy, mommy, my hands are icky" while her twin brother crushes his toy car with a hammer. Sure, there can probably be fluctuations and realizations and in-between states, but it doesn't sound unreasonable that a young child can have a pretty solid idea of gender identity (though I didn't -- I never gave it much thought until my teens).
