I went to E3 a couple of years ago, and they had monitors specially adapted to 3D glasses that didn't need red and blue crap. I tried them out, and they were pretty awesome. They said most current graphic cards would be compatible, too. I guess it's all too expensive to be worth it, but this is something I've kept an eye open for (with porn) for a long time now.

Some things just never catch on though, for one reason or another - probably often something to do with not living up to the hype, at least not with current technology limits.

I remember way back in '92 when I was in London with my school class - the big rage at the time in arcade halls was those huge virtual reality helmets, allowing people to move around inside crude 3D worlds.
That technology didn't exactly manage to make the jump to home systems - despite the vast increases in hardware power over the last 15 years.

The closest thing I've seen are probably these 3D gaming glasses - http://edimensional.com/ - but that's not really "virtual reality" but just an advanced version of the cheap red/green 3D glasses used for those old movies (and the porn site that prompted this thread).

I'm sure we'll see full fledged virtual reality some day (whether or not it's just going to be just the visual part or full body suits - assuming we won't simply be able to send and receive stimuli directly from out brains with one of those neural interfaces I think they already have working for simple data input), but clearly something has held back the development, or at least the introduction of the technology in regular homes (I'm sure new research hasn't been dropped, whether for military, medical or other purposes).
