The floods are quite bad.... south west London was hit as well, not as bad as up north through. They were driving through the streets on Sunday announcing not to drink the tap water as it somehow got contaminated....

Britain's worst floods in modern history is likely to leave 350,000 homes without drinking water, while 50,000 are without power as levels in two major rivers continue to rise.

"We have not seen flooding of this magnitude before," said Anthony Perry, an Environment Agency flood risk official. "The benchmark was 1947 and this has already exceeded it."

Police in Gloucestershire - the worst-hit area - said the peak of the "unprecedented" crisis was "by no means over", with water levels in the River Severn expected to hit their full height tomorrow evening.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who today flew over the stricken county by helicopter, announced a Government review of flood infrastructure and more funding for defences and the current rescue operations.

For those of us who live close by the Thames it's a bit difficult to know what's going on at the moment.

This morning I saw forecasts saying the situation would ease with less rainfall predicted for the next 7 days. But now I hear on the radio that parts of west London are on flood alert & the Thames is breaking its banks in Oxfordshire.

If the Thames breaks its banks in London it could get really bad.

Anyway, as I look out of my window it is raining steadily, and has been doing so for several hours now.

I am really happy the Thames Barrier is there. I live just down the river from it and am so glad for it.

I live with an old woman in a shoe, so we're not affected.
