The UK media in general has been calling her a "lesbian bigamist". That's what the Daily Mail article I gave as a link calls her.

But firstly she isn't a lesbian, she's a woman who has had one lesbian relationship.

And secondly, technically she isn't a bigamist either. Because UK law defines bigamy as the condition of having two or more husbands or two or more wives at the same time. And she has one husband and one civil partner of the same sex at the same time.

The UK media is currently using words like bigamist, adultery & marriage very loosely, & using the word "lesbian" loosley is something they have always done. They keep saying we have gay marriage in the UK now. We do not. We have civil partnerships for same-sex couples & monogamous marriages for opposite-sex couples.

There have already been several cases of married couples where the male partner has had a sex-change.And in order for this partner to be granted legal status as a woman, the couple have to get divorced, even though they want to stay together as a married couple.

But the law says they must:
1. Get divorced
2. Then the trans partner can be legally recognized as female
3. Then the couple can enter a civil partnership together

Supposedly. It's certainly true that homosexual activity between women has never been illegal in UK.

Though over the centuries it probably resulted in quite a few women being burned or drowned as witches; tortured, scourged and excommunicated for their sins; and in more recent times being committed to lunatic asylums. Getting pregnant out of wedlock certainly did.

One theory is that when Queen Victoria refused to sign the Labouchere Amendment to the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1885 that would have effectively criminalized lesbianism as well as male homosexuality, she is said to have declared "Only men admire only women." Which has led some to speculate that she was bisexual & regarded female bisexuality as natural & female homosexuality as nonexistent.

Others say that the Queen was never even given the opportunity to criminalize lesbianism. Some historians suggest that the male establishment avoided legislating on lesbianism, for fear of drawing women’s attention to its existence. And that they were only really intent on criminalizing male homosexuality anyway.
