Cetera 3D audio holography, the wave of the future?

I saw this video on youtube a couple weeks ago and it's pretty amazing:

When I saw the link I almost passed it up because I was like, "Yeah, whatever... How realistic could it be?".

Use your headphones and see if you can keep them on through the whole thing... it's pretty creepy. They don't do any loud noises or anything like that, though (I wouldn't be that cruel). It's just surreal as hell because it's so realistic. It's supposed to sound like you are sitting in a barbershop and the barber is talking to you while you get a haircut. Pretty simple, but with that holographic sound processing algorithm it makes it WAY more realistic than anything you've heard before (at least to me it did).

One of the first things I thought was, "Holy shnikeys! If a live cam sponsor used this and gave a demo in the free chat area I bet their conversion would go through the friggin' roof."

I wonder if this is on any of the major adult producers' radar? The implementation would be fairly simple. The way they record that 3D audio is to put two speakers in the same position as your ears would be. Then they apply the cetera 3D algorithm. It's probably not done in real-time yet, but that is just a matter of time. In the meantime they could just do it for movies or other static media.

The reason I was thinking of cam sites, though, was because you could imagine a cam girl just replacing the standard boom mic with a two channel 'Cetera 3D' microphone near the camera. That way the customer's eyes are the camera and their ears are the 3D mic. That would make for one hell of a more intimate and realistic experience for the customer.

This sort of capability is probably a good ways off, but the technology is there now and no extra equipment is needed by the customer on their end... just standard headphones. They are even starting to experiment with better hearing aids using that algorithm. I figured the next logical step would be movies, music, video games, virtual reality and of course adult.

Anyway, check it out for yourself. The potential applications for this are probably many and varied, but those are what came to my mind after I listed to it. Let me know what you think. It's a pretty fun novelty video regardless, though. Have fun!

Ps. Don't feel bad if you have to take your headphones off and finish it later or something... The first time I listened to it I had to take em' off about half way though because it was too realistic.

Also, make sure it's relatively quiet around you and your volume is up to a decent level to really do it justice.

Very impressive, but for some reason I didn't get nearly as much clear separation between the left and right sides/channels as I would have expected when he eg. moved the scissors and the electric razor around "your" head.

I have a decent pair of Sennheiser headphones and a Soundblaster Audigy sound card, and channel separation is not something I've noticed as a problem before with music or games.
