I'm getting pissed off with netpond ..

.. well not netpond itself but some of the advice thrown around here. some people really dont have a clue, but proclaim themselves experts on given subjects and start preaching to others, giving out incomplete, faulty or just wrong advice.
its dammed annoying and can send newbies down the wrong path for months.

You are totally right rogue, and my advice for newbees is to head over to netpondresources and read the tutorials there, or find tutorials that are written by old school netponders that are proven to work. Even if some of the information given in those threads is outdated, it is much better to use them than to get on the bandwagon and ride stright down the ditch and stay there for months, then come back at netpond and looking for advice, and wondering on why their efforts do not pay off.

Part of the problem is that advice is subjective. I think the first host a newbie should use is a good freehost using his own domain name. I get attacked for having that opinion, and then I see people suggesting the use of 3rd level subdomains on blog (and other) services.

and i have noticed such stuff appearing here more and more.. but i don't think its that much.. i just see people that recently started achieving good or close results in something wanting to share their experience to that state.

I don't know who exactly you are addressing.. but don't forget that there is a need of articles and from not that kinda experts like are the old school guys.. people surely read and believe to experts` opinion, but if you don't see someone else newb like you succeeding from those articles you may not find it that motivating..

Guess the methods of making a dime or two these days are ever changing with the technology changing quicker...

I have read a few of my old posts made months ago and it seems like some of the information I shared is way out dated now... so trial and error it is...

I know what you mean rogue, I have been watching the different boards closely and have detected a bit of tension going around as well!

I'm still a newb in many senses, but I think people just need to seek advice from many sources. I dont think anyone is an expert at anything, you need to hear it from different people and draw your own conclusions!

yea, some people don't give a shit and post wrong advices.
The best way to tell if somebody is giving a good advice is to try and experiment it.

But from experience I can tell that the "goodies" are hold back if you know what I mean.

What works for you may not work for me and vice versa. But someone will post and say "hey, I did 4 sales with XXX sponsor by doing this!!!" and all of a sudden people try it, and it doesn't work for them and they get pissed off.

You need to know the traffic sources, methods of promotion, niche, etc.

I see waaaaaaaay too many people promoting niches without a clue

I think its largely the willingness to help.

But as with all things on the net, everyone has an equal voice and even those who have been in this industry for only a year have as much say as someone who has been here for 6.

Sure probably 50% of advice (especially on SEO!) is wrong, but thats half the fun for newbies looking for help .... at least on netpond I am pretty sure bad advice isn't given on purpose like some other boards.

yep newbies like me tend to get excited when something works and can't wait to talk about it on the board. but sometimes, maybe its coincidence that we made the sale, the tip or advice is all wrong. but definitely there's no intention to mislead anyone.

its been like this forever .. even 'ole school' tutorals don't reveal everything, the best advice rarely reveals everything .. but for a thinking webmaster the penny will drop 'eventually' .. when your are a thinking webmaster you will build the bridges that connects the information .. and it all turns into a beautiful intricate matrix where everything is relevant

The only advice i would give is take everything with a grain of salt...what works for one person doesn't necessarly work for others.

When I first started I was reading tutorials all day long but sometimes you find you get conflicting advice from different people and so who to trust? Well there isn't an easy answer...part of this biz is trial and error and thats how you learn...no one makes quick easy money from the get go...if they do it's usually a fluke.

People entering in this biz have to have "balls", they have to be willing to fail cause a lot of times people do....it's just the reality of this or any business.

And as someone already posted above don't get into a niche you arn't familiar with...I still remember when I first started promoting shemale content I didn't have a clue as to what I was doing...I was actually targetting gay traffic....and then wondered why i wasn't making any sales.
