FHGs with j/script and webmaster links.

I've just received a sponsor's newsletter announcing a new site. It contained the urls for half a dozen FHGs. The first one I looked at contained j/script, and had a big webmaster link at the bottom. Do they want us to use the galleries or not? I just deleted the mail and moved on.

Sponsors - do you want us to try to sell memberships, or do you just want us to give you traffic you can exploit for your own ends without paying us?

If they are going to have webmaster links on their FHG's then they should be able to track it.

A lot of them seem to be showing up in the FHG lists with webmaster links and javascript for 'tracking purposes' so I just move on and avoid them.

But to be fair to the sponsor, they are doing it because the new webmaster/affiliates who are showing up on their doorsteps want everything done for them and expect a cheque at the end of the day.

Want to clear out the deadbeats? Trim back on the webmaster tools and available content.

I could not agree more. I tend to like programs who do not have rss feeds also,.. that way I can create my own blog posts with pics and suff and know that pic is not on a million other blogs, also I like programs that just have available content but no fhg's or rss feeds,.. create my own galleries and I know that ensures even more the content is not saturated.
Of course the content has to be exclusive in the first place.

But do sponsors want to clear out deadbeats? They can shave them, and rip off their traffic. Adding webmaster links to fhgs can turn surfers into wannabe porn webmasters, and they will be ripe for exploitation. They will also probably dump watermarked pics all over the place, and that's another good way to cut out affiliate payments.

Also I believe a lot of sponsors count on new webmasters giving up and never making payout, of course this benefits the sponsor.

For the reasons you stated headboy as well as many more, I am of the opinion that some programs do encourage such surfmasters.

As far as free hosted galleries, I really make my own galleries, because I want to control the traffic myself. Same goes for free sites, blog posts, and everything else. The longer I have control over my traffic the more money I make.

Send traffic off to a sponsor FHG or sponsor review site or hosted freesite, and now the sponsor is in control of the traffic. Plus FHG's are really for the most part about branding a sponsors site anyways.
