Why have a board?

Just saw a webmaster's board that seems like it's abandonned since all the threads are spam threads.......but the funny part is that our bot friend zand_stein has been posting in most threads! lol

Why do people start a board to just let it be used by spammers and bots, and leaving it there?

Maybe they could have sold it instead......................

I've done this a few times. I get discouraged by the lack of interest and support, and I forget to visit it. The one that saddened me the most was Link Theft. Link theft costs webmasters hundreds of millions of dollars every year, but nobody gives a toss about it. If you don't believe we are losing that much, then just look at the capital values of the publicly quoted thieves like Zango, and then think how much goes to the transient thieves. (and is retained by sponsors when their accounts are deleted

Sometimes people simply abandon sites due to the frustration of not making money and they simply arent worth the hassle of selling. Ive had more then one client walk away from an account leaving their PR3-4 domains pointed at an IP thru a custom DNS service. Later those IPs are distributed to new customers with traffic still flowing.

Matter fact a buddy of mine started to build mainstream blog and wondered where all this adult google traffic was coming from. It turned out he got one of these IPs and was pretty thrilled.

I have had one forum just to get spam, so i could see how big Viagra players promote their shit. but for porn it is to much work for to little reward if you ask me.

I do have a webmaster board, visit it several times per day and it is a spam-free board :-)

they just don't have time/are lazy/don't think its worth no more etc etc . You know when you think of a great idea to start the forum then after few days you think ah well its too hard/takes too much time and you just leave it

Selling could be an option..but that wont go for much

The email addresses you collect alone will more than cover your expenses.

It's a good way to stop spam imho. Start a board and let it get spammed to hell (use a free host if you don't want to waste money)that way you can collect emails, handles and ips and ban them from any real board. Also can't you sell email addy's to spammers

I can't imagine how it would be worth trying to sell a webmaster board unless of course, you're Netpond! There are already way too many boards - and I imagine most of the signups are the same people you find here and many other places.

What would be the advantage in buying one?

I've seen this happening with a board I used to post on quite often about 1 year or so ago. Now ( after they gave up offering prizes for posts ) the board is dead. I don't know why it is in this situation, but it could be because the owner/administrator didn't manage it the right away ( no moderating, so shit went into the board, no good posts so people stopped reading it, etc. ).
