Throwing traffic at an affiliate program

Do you guys just throw traffic at an affiliate program you like?

Just buy traffic and direct it to that affiliate and check the conversion ratios?

I rarely do it but tried it today and will check the results.

Normally I just throw up a link and let the folks click through. Feels better that way.

Yet I know some people who just traffic barter all day and I'm sure there's a fine tuned strategy there.

Now having restudied traffic I see how easy it is to get massive volumes of it but you still have to have something for that traffic to be grabbed and converted.

Blind traffic is crap so at best you will have really poor ratios. When you could offer the surfer more choices and let him CLICK his own poison. I would never buy or throw random surfers at a paysite PERIOD.

yeh sending them to a good choice of "poisons" must give you better odds.

From my experience is better to pre-sell them...
I have this site that I'm doing great with with tgp traffic... So I tried google adwords on it (pretty targeted traffic)... Spend 100+ with no sales... I just dropped it...

Yes, targeted traffic is always desired, I'm talking buying targeted or niche traffic and sending it.

As you say people do it, so someone is probably finding it profitable.

I'd say it's very difficult to turn a profit on direct clicked traffic unless you're getting it really cheap and you've got finely tuned sales text.

Google adwords is something you really have to tinker with if you want to do something like that, because you've got to figure out the best key words for the best pricing structure. I won't say anything else, as I don't know what your experience level is with them.

And are we talking about the Ricardo Scamalot? Traffic rip off artist supreme? I made that same mistake too ScreaM so don't feel bad, technically it was my husband that did, but you live and learn.

From another thread I've just posted this so I'll post it here too as it's relevant:

I've just done another traffic experiment. Looking over the results I can honestly say that gallery submission was by far the more lucrative, stabile, retaining, and slow but converting traffic.

Tweaking landing pages as I speak.

The best traffic is CLICKED traffic. Traffic the surfer clicked a link that had a pic or text displaying what 'they' wanted. Targeted traffic.

I'm on my way to buying a decent gallery submitter and good ol' Shemp just hooked me up with a new account.

I did learn this week what it takes to retain that traffic, divert and convert it. I found that out by dumb-ass accident. I should have done it long ago. If I keepit up I can stop sending gallery submissions except maybe once a month.

Like you said, finding those unsaturated programs is the key which is why when I start my new affiliate program I will not beta test it. I will just blurt it out and anybody with any sense will promote it because the fresher and unique stuff converts.

Beta gives you time to iron out wrinkles and tweak conversions. The problem of not doing a beta is that if your conversions are poor affiliates will drop you. It's much more difficult to get them back then to have them signup in the first place.

Well said Varzi. I know my stuff converts because it always does. Just have to get webmasters who know what they're doing. I had a great time with my first affiliate program. It was so easy I didn't have to think about it. Just work and watch money roll in.

See, for me, it's not having 1,000 webmasters as affiliates, it's having that special 10 webmasters who really know what the fuck they are doing. That 10 can put you over the top in a week or two. It's up to me to keep the members by pro service but that's just a matter of me being at the drafting table which is easy.

lol... I feel sorry for you...
I wasn't around when all the fuzz with him scamming someone happened (I don't remember exactly who was scammed (sabby maybe?) all I remember is that he had some piss matches with chris/jupchris or something) but you know what? Some of his ideeas/traffic schemes worked pretty good for me...

I have no experience with them... I have this site that convert for me about 1:500 with tgp traffic (don't ask, I won't tell) and I did some math and figured that at 8-10 cents/click I will do fine if I'd convert at least at the tgp convertion ratio... So I gave it ago but after 0:1000+ (about 120$) I stopped the campain as I considered it's just a waste of money (for me)

I have bought niche targeted traffic in the past and sent directly to to the correct nich affiliate link, and haven't had much results.
