Came accross this open source click heat map generator, and I've been tinkering with it since yesterday. I'm not sure it works properly (My normal stats are showing a lot more activity that is being logged by the heatmap) but it's still interesting, and easy to set up.

dutchteencash i think posted a link to one ages ago. crazyegg.com it was much simpler and didn't need any programming - just insert one line of javascript, and it would keep the stats for you.

That's how this one works. Upload to a directory, put in a username and password, check everything is green in the config screen, grab linking code, paste into your pages, look at the pictures. It's more of a curiosity than anything else, but it has alerted me to some traffic leaks I hadn't noticed before.

I always wanted to play with one of these, great news that there's a free one available.

Looks like you host it yourself too, which is cool

crazyegg seems simpler to use and gives a better output. But you can only do 5k hits a month with the free alternative.

5k hits gives a pretty good idea of where people click though. So if you don't need more than that go with crazyegg.
