Tube Scripts

Looking for a new tube script have gone through a few already attachmax and agriya. Which would you recommend for a rapidly growing site?

looking at clipshare and a few others...

no body with a tube site up?

looking for some feedback on what people are using and whats recommended for a site that is growing fairly quickly, we've outgrown attachmax and not sure about agriya, not sure if it's time for a custom solution yet but definitely need something thats a bit better on the performance end of things.

few thousand uniques a day and it's making our box dog even with a slave as the video server

I'm working on one my self but it will take a while for its finished.

A nice cheap one that seems good is vShare from buyscripts.in only costs $10,- and has some nice features.

But if you are really looking for performance try something that can run the video conversion on a different machine then the webserver. Converting vids really eats away a system resources.

yeah i'm not looking for cheap, and the script were using already uses load balancing and blah blah blah

I spoke with customer support of Agriya and they told me that their script can be used so that video conversion is on another machine than the webserver and they told me that is the best way to do it .. I never bought the script cause didnt have time to work on it ...

so what kind of bandwidth costs does a typical tube site use up, for a site which has just launched?

to answer your question jibstar it can get expensive quick even with small amounts of traffic, it all depends on the type of bandwith and the provider. obviously theirs cheaper bandwith ( cogent ) and then theirs more expensive bandwith such as Level3. Either way though it can get pricey.

and a bump for more responses hopefully from a few of you using a tube script currently

No tube scripts work well without some custom coding. There are just too many technical differences for each setup etc.... and dealing with video encoding, audio codecs etc can really cause you to tear your hair out if you don't have a programmer.

As for BW it depends on how much traffic you are doing. When we got to 20k a day we were burning around 200gig a day. We are doing much more than that now though. Starting to have a look around for load balancing solutions (and from what I hear they are costly).

If you have deep pockets a tube site could be a great investment

We are using it to feed other projects and in that regard its a success, even though we don't make anything much from it.

The price to code something like that should not cost 10K...
I guess you are trying to recoup all the $$ you lost...

no way in hell i'd ever pay 10k for something like that, it's not like we haven't thought about it coding our own, but for where the site is at the moment we don't feel it's worth the time/money to have something custom put together yet...

i've seen quite a few god awful tube scripts, you really have to be careful buying something premade like that. and as lb says, even then, it requires more work.

Clipshare is about the most complete pre made solution. But like everyone else has said, be prepared to modify the hell out of it. If you have any kind of traffic (+50,000) custom is the only way to go.
