If you want to be successful in this business and think your going to do it with one blog you really need to sit down and think about it.

For everyone here that loves what Thomas Byers writes (or I should say wrote in the past, because unfortunately he's not back) most people seem too forget or not even take notice of his most important comments. This is a numbers game and most businesses are. Trying to scale your online business with one site is a complete waste of time imho and an uphill battle that you'll likely lose.

Made my first sale in first days of May, when I had 2 blogs and 3rd in works. Actually only first blog was getting decent traffic, #2 was still waiting for directory approvals.

I have 10 blogs and another 20 splogs or so. 75% of my income comes from 2 blogs
Splogs are a waste of time unless you use them to feed your good blogs. Reason: whole internet is now clogged with crappy splogs and it will be only worse as webmasters continue on cranking up worthless blogs with default WP theme and a couple RSS slapped in.

Actually building a blog is maybe job 10% done, 90% are your marketing skills and how well you work on that blog to appear in SE's. I also think SEO part is a bit more important than marketing.

I'd say learn your niches, be positive and actually talk to your surfer. This way some of your blogs can earn up to $200-300/month (or more). All at the cost of 1 handwritten post per week per blog (15-30 minutes of time per post). This way you can earn a nice income with only a dozen of blogs that you actually have to update at least once a week.

With splogs you still have to SEO them, write good sales texts on sidebars and think about placing ads. For ideas go to blogging forum=>money clinic thread, as well as certain other threads. There's a whole sea of information right there (some might be outdated though).

None! You can make a sale without a blog. That said, you need at least one.. and traffic. And relevancy.

I prefer Quality over Quantity. If you are a good blogger then you can make nice money with just a little few blogs.

While I agree that you can make nice money with a few blogs, I don't think you'll get rich doing it. You need scale and fortunately in the online biz, scale doesn't cost a lot of additional $$$. Think about it, can you make $10,000/month with 10 blogs? Doubtful. With 100 blogs? With correct SEO skills, definitely.

I just hump legs for a living and that makes me some nice cheddar.lol In all seriousness, I made my first sale off my first blog but it took a bit for it to start getting some lovin' from google, like three months or so. I don't know if thats slow or not but now things are building and I know better what I'm doing wrong. I say just build it and wait.

You are very correct my friend. Let me rephrase myself..... Build and build and when you get done building, build some more. Don't get rid of the stuff that you're building and have left there for a bit until you know for sure that it doesn't work, like you've spent about a year waiting for it to start getting SE hits or the PR is still 0. Then fix the issues. I had a site that I had stuff on for a year but it wasn't doing anything and I wasn't really doing much and I let it go. I wish I still had that site just because it was older than what I have now and I like the name. Don't always grade yourself by sales though, sometimes that is just a little bit of tweaking to fix that.
