Warning to anyone about to start using Vista

http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bc3b755/58

OK I decided to go and buy a new PC two weeks ago. for the past two year I have had an external hard drive where I shove work and software downloads. Knowing that one day I would change PCs I thought this would be the easiest way for me to move everything over and also I would have a constant back up.

Anyway I buy a kick arse HP with Vista installed. Basically any Adobe CS3 products will not install on Vista. Read the thread above from Adobe. There are several ways to get it to work but none of them worked for me.

So I have a kick arse HP with Vista now sat there doing nothing. I personally think that microsoft have done this on purpose as when I contacted them they didnt offer me any way to solve the problem but suggested that I switch over to their 'superior' software http://www.microsoft.com/expression/.../overview.aspx

I found it quite a coincidence that all adobe products which were market leaders and rivals to the new Microsoft software didnt work when most software that Microsoft does not make a similar version of does instantly install.

If you are going to start using Vista make sure you have early copies of the software that you can install as I know if it is a few years old it will install on Vista.

Everything these days seems to be designed to scam, cheat, steal and/or defraud, including the government.

Since to me this sounds very much like Adobe fucking up their own installer rather than something you can attribute to malicious scheming plans of the big evil Microsoft corporation (though we all know how much everyone and their dog loves to indulge in those kinds of paranoid speculations ), I read through some of the thread you linked to as well as searched a bit more for it on Google.

A lot of it was way over my head (all manner of installer related scripting and Java stuff), but it definately looks like there are several people who think this was a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" - which was apparantly just what the guys at Adobe thought would be fun to do with CS3.
Sounds like the problem is happing to some people on XP as well, not just Vista.

No doubt Adobe will release a fix for it sooner rather than later.

Think of Microsoft and Vista as Bush and Cheney ...

Sure everybody hates Bush, but Cheney is the real evil ...

If nothing else, contact HP and ask them to send you an XP "downgrade" kit, that will bring your computer onto XP so you can get back to work.

I have tried that. Still doesnt work. Norton spends its life popping up telling me what it is doing. Thanks for the advice though.
