UK/EU webmasters noticing slow site loads or timeouts

We have been contacted by several UK/EU clients complaining or inquiring about slow site loads or timeout errors for most of last night ...

This seems to be an issue with bad routing or general network congestion on the PCCW Trans-Atlantic carriers, and basically out of the control of both your hosts and/or your local ISPs.

I wish I could give you better news, but in this case, all we can do is wait it out and hope PCCW fixes it soon.

To give you examples, while all North American pings to our servers resulted in latencies of 2-40ms, UK and EU ping servers were reporting 147-442ms latency, and even pings from Europe to GOOGLE.CA were resulting in 140-300ms latency.

That probably explains why gmail was unreachable most of yesterday...

You and me both... been extremely slow doing anything... I even get errors from Netpond!

Over 36 hours later, and the overseas routing issues have not been fixed yet!

Pinging Google.ca from europe and asia still is resulting in over 400ms latency!

I'm getting 14-20 ms responses from google.ca (www.1.google.com - 64.233.183.147) right now, and I haven't really noticed any other particular slowdowns anywhere on the net (well, Netpond could be a tad faster - but at least it's vastly better than the week last month where I couldn't reach it at all, or any other Cyberwurx IPs, and my ISP had to do some major rerouting

).

Wow, glad it wasn't just me. It was beyond slow for me over the weekend. So much so that I simply couldn't work at times.
