The average home in South Florida is $350-500k which is really nothing special. Anything over 3 bedrooms has been going for upwards of $500k easy. I have seen houses that need to be gutted they are in such bad condition sell for near a million just because of the location. Even a 20 year old trailer will go for $15-20k as Canadians will buy them up for vacation homes.

no matter what the exact figure, it's a whole fucking shameful lot of poor people in the leading economy of the world!

and if this phrase from wikipedia is more or less true "In 2006, poverty rate for minors in the United States was 21.9% - highest child poverty rate in the developed world" it shows a very bad picture of how the US takes care of its young generation.
