Most dangerous places you've ever been?

Let's see... I've been to some very sketchy areas of Los Angeles, Miami, NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Baja Mexico, Jamaica and Honduras and lived to tell about it... and Northridge California during the '94 earthquake. I'm sure there have got to be some good stories to tell here on the Pond?

The most dangerous place I have lived is were I am now. Daytona beach. Not exactly a crime capital but not the safest place to be at night either.

Probably Belize City, it has a population of 70,000 and they'd just had their 30th murder of the year... in March! Almost every person on the street seemed to be either totally drunk, a crackhead or mentally unstable. We took refuge in an expat bar and that was almost as bad - full of 50 yr old vodkaholics with 15yr old Belizean girlfriends. One of the guys ran a religion in the US and funded his lifestyle off donations!

Also visited Mexico City which has a bad reputation but personally felt safe and had no problems walking the streets or using the subway after dark.

I was also at the Hillsboro disaster in 1989 when 96 Liverpool fans died, which wasn't scary at the time but was later when the magnitude of what had happened sunk in.

New Guinea in 1981 on the island of Bouganville. Huge uprising of locals against the giant copper mine that was there. They literally went loco with machetes and started chopping people up. As an 11yo kid I saw a guy get decapitated right in front of me

Brixton isnt that bad. My mate lived there in a very nice house. I think Brixton has more of a bad name than actual bad area. Parts of Battersea and Clapham are far worse.

i sort of lived in clapham for 6 months or so a few years back and i didnt think it was too bad, bloody tatty though!

Mihai this made me think back to when I was about 16 and lived at my girlfriends parents house without the parents knowing. Lived there for about 6 months and there were some close calls but never did get caught

The only place that I've really felt in danger was south San Diego, I was much younger of course, at one point the driver refused to move the bus untill I sat in the front where I belonged. Coming from Canada I didn't know what he was talking about.

Other than that the most dangerous places have been in arms distance of my wifes or girl friends....

Got lost in New Orleans at night once!

I was driving that Mercury Sable like I was in Nascar......and I know if a cop would have stopped me, he would have escorted me out of the shithole I was in, and not give me a ticket!

One scary moment in my life......and I do not worry much about walking in most places I travel too, even at night.
