Just wondering how many of the U.S. Webmasters do their own taxes. And if you hire a tax professional, how much that costs.

If you do your own taxes, what do you have to file? I'm basically trying to get an understanding of what I need to do before I get myself into hot water.

I have someone else doing them for me always have. For me its the best way to go.

It's best just to have a CPA do it. They are trained to do this and you can usually get it done for under $100. I found one in my hometown for $35.

a lot of people will give you different advice on this but wouldn't you rather have a professional do it? this way you can discuss ways to get more money back that you might not have thought of.

look in the phone book and call around early. a lot of deals can be done if you hit a tax agent early. If you wait till that last minute the cheapest you will get will be $100.

Sure if your taxes will be simple then you're looking at a cheaper price for an accountant. But if you're not organized and have lots of receipts and paperwork which aren't filed neatly you'll be looking at a higher price.

Yes do as much as you can yourself and keep the bill as low as possible.

One very simple tip but it works - Get 12 pieces of A4 sized card. Write january, February, March.... on each piece so you now have 12 cards each with a month written on it.

Every month, staple or with a UHU type glue stick your receipts for each month to the card on the corresponding month.

Your accountant will love it as neither you or him will mix, lose or place a receipt on the wrong months outgoings.
