"Verified by Visa" billing processors redirecting to netbank. Potential lost sales?

Over the past year I've occasionally found myself somewhat annoyed after having gone through the first couple of billing steps (using Opera, as I do 99% of the time on the web) only to suddenly see the "Verified by Visa" logo and a message saying I will now be redirected to my bank.

The main reason that's an annoyance for me is that I have to stop there and start over in IE (for some reason I've never actually tried my netbank in Opera - always just assumed that the software wouldn't work, maybe I should give it a shot), but there's obviously a potentially bigger problem - what if I was a little old fashioned in my bank relations and didn't actually use netbanking?
No goods for me, no sale for the merchant.

Until ten minutes ago that's only happened to me with software purchases and the like, but I've just experienced the exact same thing with a well known paysite using VSX Billing (don't know if US customers - or even some other Europeans - might be redirected to other billers, I can't recall if I got VSX Billing the last time I was a member either).

Now I don't want to take over as the resident paranoid webmaster (you're still here, aren't you Head Boy ), but couldn't this be a potential problem?
Or is it safe to assume that the overwhelming majority of people ready to whip out a credit card and use it on the Internet are also using netbanking (on the same computer)?

Oh, and what the hell?! I just went through the signup process in IE (so pissed off that I went over here and wrote the last post before I joined ) - "you're already a member of this site", and my login aquired through Opera does indeed work, even though, out of habit, I closed the page down as soon as the bank redirect started (usually I've had to login to my netbank with "Verified by Visa" billing).

Which means I'm now a tad confused with regards to exactly how this netbank redirecting may or may not work for various people under various conditions.

Edit: Oh, and oops. I just got a $43.58 sales notice from the sponsor - looks like I must have had an old session or cookie stored even though I thought the link was clean.
Better send them a mail and confess .

I'm not paranoid, I just seem to be able to see these potential problems before others.

Verified by Visa is a pain in the butt. They're implementing some on-line verification processes right now, and they look like Eastern European scams. The popups and sites are just the sort of things they warn us to avoid on all the banking startup pages.

It wont be so much of a problem once more keyboards have card swipes, thumb print or chip readers built in. The issue as we all know is these assholes who buy things and claim to have not made the purchase. It costs you and it costs the banks millions in fraud (not being verified) so this is something we all need to accept. If you can think of a better solution for the short term im sure Visa would be willing to pay you a hefty sum. Unfortunately for the time being there are just to many obstacles that need to be overcome in terms of newer technology being more widely available.

Anything Visa does is going to affect millions of merchants and overall porn site owners are the minority.

As a merchant I like Verified by Visa.
Losing the occasional sale is well worth it.
