If trends continue (as I think they will) .....

plan for less free traffic

plan for worse conversions

try to generate traffic you own because 2009 won't be kind to those without traffic. Web2 and social networking style sites are making a huge dent in traditional sites traffic, so ensure you have a base of bookmarkers at the end of this year otherwise you might not be able to weather the storm.

Our industry is maturing

Couldn't agree more.
Get your own fucking traffic sources: become a SEO-god, or make good bookmarkable sites, but if you're depending on TGPs,etc... to get traffic, expect the source to continue to provide less and less traffic (like it has been since 2004)

I partly agree with that, however, its nothing new. In the past, you suceeded only if you had bookmarkers, returning visitors to your TGP etc. This is the same, just different tools.

Less free traffic... not sure what u mean. Traffic is generated by users. Its the way you approach them to get the hits that makes difference. Problem is that traffic becomes split into more and more sources. SEO-centric marketing is just dumb nowadays.

Worse conversions... well yes and no. I mean... you cant expect people to be paying 30 bucks a month for a (in most cases) static site loaded with content that they can get tons for free (and now i am not talking about piracy) Maybe paysite owners finally realize that there are other revenue models as well.

Tbh what you just described is a big challenge for paysite owners, and will divide winners and losers and will not happen in 1 year. Of course, its the way the customers consume the product that is making you sales and idea of static site making you money in next few years is just silly. Ordinary affiliates - well for them its just another way to attract the hits.

I recently started with reviews for my new review site and I must admit I completely dropped some sponsors because I've seen smaller ones with incomparably better sites.

Ok, maybe we should fight against "tube sites" then... In my opinion it's only way to stop giving all those free content to the surfers...

Aren't "Tube-sites" just MGP sites with a different layout?
More exactly, Tube-sites are to TGPs what picpost sites where to TGPs.
I see Pirate/Torrent sites as a problem, but certainly not tubes...

If i had it my way everyone would do 10 second movies max and we would all still be using picposts only.... but unfortunately if you don't keep up with the latest you lose your traffic.

Anyhow we've tried really hard to keep the video sizes down and maximise the quality of the traffic on wtube. Dont have as much traffic as many of the big ones, but it actually converts. Half the big tubes aren't even covering their own BW with the income they pull in. Their own fault though ... who the hell is gonna pay 15c a click for tube traffic ???

Anyhow this isn't just about tube traffic.

Before tubes even existed (2 yrs or so ago I think) ... the trends have been less free traffic, worse conversions and higher ratios ... and I don't see that trend stoping now since it has stuck for the past 8 or so years.

We will probably see the whole "2000000000 pictures in 4684974 picture sets" go away from every paysite in the next years, or at least get less advertised, it's been like 4 years since the last time i jerked off to a picture
Content will become more and more easier to get 'for free' so it won't matter so much what you have, as how you will present it. I imagine a site that lets you search for whatever you want, comes up with relevant content related to your search and also produces content related to what people search the most would do well, with some social networking parts added in.

Well imo not only free porn will be a problem. There's also the consolidation of the current free traffic sources. Sponsors starting to cut out (small) affiliates in favor of those with huge traffic or they have their own traffic sources. So follow LBs advice and make sure you have your own traffic (bookmarkers, se traffic, whatever) or make sure you have a good budget for advertising.

As for "webcams are the future"; the market for adult sites with quality/rare niched content or sites like videobox is absolutely here to stay.

One thing is, if conversions get worse paid traffic is going to have to get cheaper. I just renegotiated a long term purchased hard link to less than 50% of what I used to pay for it. It still converts so it's up to me to make it profitable. I can see buying traffic becoming a lot more affordable as all the sites with huge traffic an no way to monetize it get desperate.

Still useless if you can't convert it either of course.

NO! They are not! On TGP sites you have thumbs/text galleries who have links to FHG's who have max 4 clips with 10-15sec each. You also have some % of skim traffic on that sites.

On TUBES you don't have skim and you have clips with 10+min!!!

Do you see the difference?
