So today is my birthday, and... :(

So today is my birthday, and its a rough one to say the least.

But so far its also a great one...

Five weeks ago Mom had triple bypass surgery.. Ok, she came out with no problems, all was well..... Then last week she got real lethargic and acting all wierd...

One thing led to another and we called 911, they came and got her into the ER.

Turns out she got an infection inthe surgical wound (its a 1-4% statistic of happening with seniors).. and not just any infection, it was MRSA (Pronounced "Mer sa").. THis staff infection has been killing people everywhere... Damn, we almost lost her.. Her kidneys were failing, the heart rate and blood pressure was like a yo-yo... This went on for a few days while they took cultures and tried to stablize her, etc..

Three days ago, they found the MRSA and started her on some bad ass anti-biotics and whatnot... Well she is doing better but had to go in for more surgery this morning to get the infected/dead tissue out of the Sternum(rib cage) and then re-connect the Sternum again...

Well, shes in ICU(intensive care) and on the breathing machine and sedated for at least today BUT her vital signs are good and steady, the surgeon said the proceedurew went well and she should recover ok.

So for my birthday i only want one present.

My mom.

So far so good.... One day at a time.

I'm sending some positive energy to you.

I almost lost my mom this past year to throat cancer. She had 3 surgeries cutting out everything they could then radiation that put her on a feeding tube for 6 months. I'm not good at coping and I was a total mess. But she pulled through and so far so good.

15 years ago my dad was litterlly on his death bed on life support he wasnt going to make it one more day then a donor was found and he got a liver transplant. I'm not good at coping and I was a total mess. But he pulled through and just had his 60th birthday this year.

Miracles do happen. Hope they do for you.

Happy birthday to both Melly and SexyFriend.

SexyFriend, I count myself lucky that I've not had to deal with any thing that sever. My dad has Crohn's disease and there was a year where we were really worried about him. He just kept on losing weight. He was to the point he needed help to do just about any thing because he just didn't have the strength to do any thing for himself. We thought for sure he was going to end up hospitalized over the flair up. It was one of the scariest moments of my life, because the dr. said if he got that far gone he may not come out of the hospital the same way he went in. We got very lucky that my dad was able to start eating more solid foods (they had him on baby food for a while) and started gaining weight. Plus they put him on some steroids to help. We avoided the hospital with just day's to spare.
Nothing compared to what you are having to deal with but my sympathies and well wishes are with you during this difficult time.
