Well, that stupid norton site says it does that, but it just badmouths any site with popups or anything at all it doesn't like, including links to sites with popups even if you don't have them yourself

I don't think there's an easy solution but I've been doing a bit of digging and this is what I've found...
The site http://www.stopbadware.org keeps a database of know malware sites. You can search the database to check if a site is on the list... http://www.stopbadware.org/home/reportsearch Google now uses this list, so if you search the site on Google it should warn you if it's on the list (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/security/0,1...9280540,00.htm). Microsoft are doing a project to build a website scanner that checks for malware but it looks like it's still a work in progress... http://research.microsoft.com/HoneyMonkey/ This also looks like a useful tool but I haven't tried it... http://www.freedrweb.com/browser/ There's also the NetCraft Toolbar but that's aimed more at Phishing sites... http://toolbar.netcraft.com/ Finally, if you just want a quick and dirty way of checking the source of a site without actually loading it in your browser you can type view-source: in the address bar in FireFox. Example... view-source:http://www.google.co.uk/ Hope some of this helps, Carl0s. |
