What does a dedicated server cost with a decent pipe?

I'd like to know what it would cost to have a server with something like a 15/15 or better 30/30 pipe... maybe would use 1000gb - 2000gb transfer per month is all

I'd say the price would start from $150. But it depends and on the servers configuration and the network provider.
We use Verotel and:
3,000GB Premium Bandwidth is $110/month
30Mbps - $345/m
50Mbps - $595/m
100Mbps - $1,215/m

But there are also and cheaper providers

Fred

I have a dedicated 2.4 Ghz Pentium4 server with 1GB RAM and 80GB HDD that includes 400GB transfer (or 1Mbit sustained if you prefer) for $99

I can do the same server with your 2000GB for under $200/mos

Our bandwidth is multi-homed tier1 with Level3 and HE as the backbone.

PM me or ICQ me 306088434

** I have only one of these boxes left, so when it's gone, its gone!

Hello Mr. Maxwell,

If you were only looking for a 1000 to 2000 GB's of monthly transfer, all of our standard server packages include a minimum of 1500 GB burstable transfer on a 100 Mbps connection anyway. On the plans with 1500 GB you can increase them to 2000 GB for as little as $50 extra/mo.

I also think that in most cases you would find that beyond our bandwidth being tier 1, we bill based on the average vs the 95th percentile that so many hosts use, which is an added value to you, if you have spikes in your traffic.

Here is a link to our most recent special that I have posted here on Netpond Caro.Net Dual Special, please take a moment to look at it and I am confident that you will see the value we are offering.

Good luck with your search.

Always hated pipes and loved the aroma from paper much better. Try adding a bit of flavored pipe tobacco and its like smoking a piece of heaven.

I'm not terribly clear on how dedicated servers, work, either,
I know that in theory I would countrol the thing from here through some sort of PCanywhere-esque little app with a cutesy GUI, right, but if I want that I have to buy some stupid windows license?

You can also use either KVM over IP or Dells DRAC technology to console directly into a server remotely and from what I understand it is like sitting right at the server.

If you are not familiar with the operation of a server then i would certainly recommend that you consider a quality control panel for your direct interaction and a good solid support agreement between you and your host.

Also, while FIOS is great, if you do get it you may want to put a test box at home for you to play with but I would certainly not recommend putting a production box at home.

Do you have backup power?
Will you be multi homed?
Are you ready to administrate the server that you have income based upon?

Trying to save yourself a little bit on hosting can cost you your business, pick a quality host and focus on the parts of your business that can really increase your ROI.

If you are not familiar with dedicated servers, take managed service and let other do administration for you.

Fred its fairly simple to do most of the things you need and running on a dedicated is not much different then shared. Its not like you would be required to setup the OS yourself from command line. Most every host thse days provides a control panel of some type and installs most of the modules needed to run scripts. You might run into things like needing to install extra modules which your host should be able to sort for you. Other then that most everything you will need to do can be done from a browser interface that is simple as point and click.

And so you know most every ISP these days has the ports for running a web server blocked and/or strictly forbids it in the Terms.

Can I host a Web page?
Verizon FiOS Internet Service consumer packages include 10 MB of personal Web space. The consumer offers do not permit customers to host any type of server, personal or commercial.

I'd never try to put a webserver in at home..
I remember back when cable modems first came out.. they were unreliable and not capped... alot of guys ran web servers on them, it was funny and kind of dumb.
