Probably a good idea but I don't want to count anyone out that might have a super fact computer just because they don't want to donate. I might do it again next month and set it up like that.

Also I've had three people donate today and I'll be posting the amounts with a thank you in this thread

yes, It updates once a day to change stats and update the program. Just check back later and it should be running fine. Be sure to join my team even if you don't want to try and get the prize.

Sabby there are no individual donations required to fund the service itself. They have big companies who donate the technology needed to make it all work which means there is no need for money. Basically this software allows many computers spread out over the world to work together like a super computer. It uses all the combined processing power to test and crack mathematical formulas and combinations. Similar systems have been used for DNA mapping and many other types of research over the years.

By doing this scientists can use existing global infrastructure in a much more cost effective manner. There is no need to spend money on power, data centers, hardware and staff to maintain it all. The scientists do most of the work analyzing and maintaining the data your system sends and receives. Each team (groups of volunteers) builds their own nodes that link up to work on particular tasks together. By doing this each distributed network can have many teams working on many different projects.

The donations mentioned in this thread are more of a Netpond contest with an incentive to get more people to donate their computers. Mike could not withdraw the donated point money so there is no need for concern about who is banking on what.
