T-shirt biz, anyone dabble in it?

Anyone work in t-shirts? Give them away or sell them on your adult sites or even just mainstream?

Ja, Cafe Press at cafepress.com is the online choice. I haven't had time to really exploit it as I should. I should be making a fortune with that place but I'm swamped with work.

Hmmm... never thought Cafe Press would be a option for me, but after
reading their TOS and parsing through their horror section i might give
it a try. I think i check if my 'She' render is acceptable for them (of
course without the strapon ) But - although they accept 'artistic nudity'
- i'm somehow afraid i would have to spend her some kind of top.

I wish there would be a adult version of Cafe Press, i would love to see
my 'little angel of death' series on shirts or mugs

Yup, important safety note. I downloaded their basic template and it's
2000px X 2000px. Rendering images that size will be somewhere between
stressful and impossible (at least with my equipment)

Actually promotional products and related services are HF's offline biz, catering mostly to local businesses (shopping malls etc). I did put up the site aXXXessorize for him as a doorway to serve our adult online contacts too, as, seeing as it's something he already does it doesn't hurt to serve another market as well should they desire it, and he does have some adult clients.

But we never developed the site as it was unecessary, the quality of his products belies the need for a shop front, there's too many variables involved (quality of shirt, colours, printing/stitching etc etc) that every client has to be dealt with on a personal basis anyway, a shop where they can just order what they want wouldn't work (it's not a cheap cafepress alternative and never will be).

Other than putting up the site and very occasionally acting as intermediatory when he's having trouble understanding someone's english (he has difficulties with some accents), I have nothing to do with that side of the biz, it's HF's domain. I am the webmaster, he is the business.

I have some T-shirt designs but I didn't print that so far...

Buy some iron on printable material and some $2 wife beaters. Make some designs print them up and see how they come out. Anything done professionally will be about three times better.

Cafe Press makes my life easy. I can spend a day doing 5 hand drawn designs and whip up some fonts in Photoshop and I'm done! Just upload the graphics and I'm done! I have been away so long from doin' t-shirt designs for my Cafe Press shop I need to spend a couple of weeks cranking out about 50 new designs and I'll be good for years to come. Then just build up mainstream traffic and let the sales roll. So many Cafe Press shops have crap cookie cutter clip art graphics that each store looks the same as the last one. I throw up some original art and they go bonkers asking me where I got it.

The trick to Cafe Press is have some shit to put up there and learn how to drive traffic to it. You'll sell. Heck if you hired someone to do 10 designs and you tossed it up on a Cafe Press site and just sent traffic to it you would make some loot.

When I do toons for clients I always make a t-shirt file for them and try to let them know of the marketing potential in shirts, hats, hoodies, cups etc. Fans go for that shit.

read the acceptable content threads on their boards... looks interesting.
Think i take the risk, prepare some designs for printing and test how far i
can go. One of their rules regarding nudity is: 'No Genitals'. At first i thougt
ok, clear and easy to follow. But on second thought, are nude breasts or
nipples seen as genitals? ( Hey, its a US mainstream company after all )

Btw: The copyright threads are a interesting read. On the one side there is
the "Why got my Garfield stuff kicked, i did those drawings myself" and of
course the "I found it on the internet so it's public domain" classic.

On the other hand it seems like sombody got the exclusive rights for the use
of the word 'Caution' on t-shirts. And i thought german intellectual property
fascists are evil

lyno I do render artwork at larger sizes than that using Daz Studio for some of my stocking/fetish artwork.
My PC copes with it quite well, what software and type of renders do you do?

I use poser7 (P4 3.2Ghz CPU and 2Gig Ram). I know a lot of artists that prefer
Daz Studio for renders (although they use poser for the posing). The problem
that i have with daz studio is that i bought the PC i use for renders in
hungary so it came with windows in hungarian and it seems like some libs daz
studio needs are missing. Since my hungarian sucks i don't want to risk
messing up my windows installation just for trying studio.

Some of my renders are rather complex and i get out of mem errors regularly
Multible M3 and V3/4 figures with clothing eat up the memory fast.

There was a court case wayyyy back in the late 70s we studied it in college. Cops in some midwestern state busted a topless bar for indecency and the definition of indecency included the exposure of genitalia. None of the dumb ass prosecutors stopped to think to ask a biologist that mammaries are glands not genitals. Tits aren't part of the reproductive process. The cops lost the case by the way.

Same with frontal nudity in women. You can't see the genitals unless she exposes them and that means she's gotta part them lips.

Tastefully nude stuff with a raunchy slogan should work well on CafePress.

Lol... but: regarding what i have read on the CP forum public hair is usually
seen as genital but mods said that those things often are a case
to case decision. Sexual explicit text seems to be ok (of course restrictions apply)

Personally I think officially licensed concert t shirts are the way to go. They cost a bit more but are collectors items and if you don't sell a shirt just keep it. In a few years it will be vintage and you can toss it up on ebay. We use to be able to buy our stuff for $6.50 to $7 but we had a really good deal through a mutual friend.
