I remember reading many threads, and reputable advice from others, that softcore often sells BETTER than hardcore. It teases the surfer better, therefore provoking a "thirst for more". It often hides certain 'goods', therefore providing mystery and a type of suspenseful curiousity, I guess you could say.

If you ask me... TEASING + THIRST FOR MORE + MYSTERY + CURIOUSITY, seems like a good formula for enticing a surfer to whip out the credit card and SEE MORE. Or at the very least encourage to check out the gallery more, giving you a higher CTR and better chance surfers will get to the 'next page' to be presold by the sponsor.

Now, if you're referring to starting your own softcore paysite OTOH... I'm sure many of these points can be applied to that business model in the softcore niche as well, giving you a better idea of if there is potential profit in it

There is money in absolutely everything if you can market it right.

Do a search for 'nonnude' or NN sites and take a look at them. I personally know several guys that ONLY do softcore sites and do very well.

Sounds a bit like you're mainly talking about using softcore content to sell hardcore porn (like picking out the first few photos from a set for instance), rather than selling actual softcore sites?

I certainly believe a softcore site can sell just as well as a hardcore site - but obviously only if that's what a particular surfer (and your traffic in general) is looking for.
If I'm looking for gonzo style double penetration gangbangs, "teasing" and "mystery" probably don't figure particularly high on my wish list

I don't have much experience with galleries, freesites and "teasing" (in the more general sense) advertising - I rely on lots of text and hard facts in reviews and blog posts - but even so, I have to admit that I'm also a bit sceptical with regards to using softcore samples to sell hardcore sites (like eg. the initial photoset pics as mentioned above).

Yes, I was actually thinking about the cropped thumbs being softcore, wasn't sure if the thread starter meant regarding softcore paysites or selling using softcore. I kinda realized at the end of my post :P

Sure, as we all know different niches require different approaches. My emphasis was more on using softcore to tease and awaken a surfer's curiousity, thinking along the lines of blog posts thumbs as I clarified above. In this gangbang scenario, I would consider a photo or two showing off the girl with her original "innocence", followed by a hardcore sample image getting right down to the downright dirty action

Kind of 'teasing' the surfer with the initial image of the girl, and leading their mind to "this is what happens to this innocent beauty later on, so click for more!" type thing. But meh, thats just my
